BiteMeasure Today screen: 546 of 2,000 kcal ring with protein, carbs, fat and fiber totals

What BiteMeasure tracks

  • Calories — consumed, your goal, and how many are left, in the Today ring.
  • Protein — the macro most people underestimate, with its own target.
  • Carbohydrates and fat — tracked per meal and per day.
  • Fiber — easy to forget and a useful marker of food quality.
  • Water — add a glass, a bottle, or a custom amount.

Every meal you log — from a photo, a description, or a nutrition label — adds to these totals automatically.

Daily totals at a glance

The Today screen is designed to answer one question quickly: where do I stand? The ring shows calories against your goal, macro chips show today's protein, carbs, fat, and fiber, and daily-target bars show progress toward each number.

Meals are organised into breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, and you can filter the day by category — useful for spotting, say, that most of your calories arrive after 6 pm.

Targets that fit your goal

In Goals, choose whether you want to lose, maintain, or gain weight, and enter your age, height, weight, and activity level. BiteMeasure recommends daily targets for calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, and water — and every number stays editable.

Diary, calendar, and editing past entries

The Diary lists every meal grouped by day and category with calorie and macro totals; switch to the calendar to jump to any date.

Open an entry to change its name, category, ingredients, or amounts, then recalculate — the day's totals update with it. You can also remove an entry entirely. How portion corrections work.

What the numbers are — and aren't

Macros in BiteMeasure are estimates built from portion estimates and typical nutrition values for each food. They aren't laboratory measurements, and two servings of the “same” dish can genuinely differ.

The app does check its own arithmetic: a meal's total is the sum of its items, and the calories implied by protein, carbs, and fat (4, 4, and 9 kcal per gram) are compared with the calorie estimate. When they don't reconcile, it flags the result for review and lowers its confidence instead of hiding the mismatch.

For day-to-day decisions, consistent logging with honest estimates is far more useful than precise-looking numbers you can't verify. If you want next-step ideas based on these totals, see the AI nutrition coach.

Frequently asked questions

  • Which nutrients does BiteMeasure track?

Calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, and fiber for every meal, plus water. Each has a daily target with a progress bar on the Today screen.

  • How are my daily targets calculated?

From the age, height, weight, activity level, and goal you enter in Goals, using the Mifflin–St Jeor equation with an adjustment for losing, maintaining, or gaining weight. These are population-based estimates, and you can edit every target yourself.

  • Are the macro numbers exact?

No. Macros come from estimated portions and typical reference values for each food — they're estimates, not laboratory measurements. Editing amounts or using a nutrition label makes an entry closer to reality.

  • Can I log food without taking a photo?

Yes. You can describe a meal in text or by voice, and edit the result just like a photo-based entry.

  • Can I look back at previous days?

Yes. The Diary shows meals grouped by day and category with totals, and a calendar view lets you jump to any date.
