1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how BiteMeasure AI App (“BiteMeasure,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you visit https://bitemeasure.com, create an account, or use the BiteMeasure mobile application and related services (together, the “Service”). BiteMeasure is an AI-powered nutrition, calorie-estimation, and food-recognition application that analyzes food images you provide.
By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. For details specific to the mobile app, camera, and photo library, see our App Privacy Policy.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide to us
- Account information — your email address and authentication credentials when you register with email/password, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In. If you use a third-party sign-in, we receive a basic profile identifier and verified email from that provider.
- Food images and uploads — photos you capture with your camera or upload from your device for nutrition analysis.
- Meal and nutrition data — meals you log, portion edits, follow-up answers, nutrition history, food-scan history, calorie and macronutrient goals, and related notes.
- Profile and goal settings — details you enter to calculate targets, such as age, height, weight, activity level, and body goal (lose, maintain, or gain).
- Customer support messages — the content of emails, forms, and other communications you send us.
Information collected automatically
- Device information — device model, operating system and version, app version, language, and time zone.
- Usage statistics — features used, screens viewed, scans performed, and interaction events used to operate and improve the Service.
- Diagnostics — crash logs, performance data, and error reports.
- Identifiers — IP address, Firebase installation and instance identifiers, and push notification tokens.
Subscription information
When you subscribe, the applicable app store (Apple App Store or Google Play) processes your payment and shares limited transaction details with us — such as your subscription status, plan, renewal state, and an anonymized purchase token. We do not receive or store your full payment card number.
3. How we use information
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service and your account.
- Analyze food images to estimate foods, portions, calories, and macro- and micronutrients, and generate confidence scores.
- Save and display your daily log, history, goals, and insights.
- Personalize features and improve accuracy and performance.
- Process subscriptions, free trials, and scan allocations.
- Send service messages and, with permission, push notifications.
- Provide customer support and respond to your requests.
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
4. Legal basis for processing (EEA/UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on these legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the Service you request); consent (for example, camera access, optional analytics, or push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time); legitimate interests (to secure, maintain, and improve the Service); and legal obligation (to meet regulatory requirements).
5. AI processing of images and descriptions
BiteMeasure uses artificial intelligence and image-analysis techniques to identify foods and estimate portions and nutrition from the images and details you provide. To deliver these features, your images and meal descriptions may be processed by our systems and by trusted third-party AI and cloud providers acting on our behalf. These outputs are estimates and may be inaccurate — see our AI Disclaimer. We do not use your food images to identify you, and we do not sell your images.
6. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality, preferences, and analytics. The mobile app uses SDKs and device identifiers to provide analytics and diagnostics rather than browser cookies. For details and choices, see our Cookie Policy.
7. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers — vendors who process data on our behalf under contract (hosting, storage, authentication, AI analysis, analytics, crash reporting, and messaging).
- App stores and payment processors — Apple and Google for subscription billing and management.
- People you choose — if you share a meal with a connection, it is visible to that person. Your log is private by default and is never posted to a public feed.
- Legal and safety — where required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
8. Third-party services we use
Depending on features you use, we may rely on the following providers, each governed by its own terms and privacy policy:
- Google Firebase — Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and Analytics (database, storage, backend logic, and diagnostics).
- Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In — authentication.
- Apple App Store and Google Play Billing — in-app purchases and subscription management.
- Google Cloud and AI providers — hosting and the AI/image-analysis services used to generate nutrition estimates.
9. International data transfers
We are based in the United States, and our providers may process data in the U.S. and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for transfers of personal data outside your region.
10. Data retention
We retain personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and thereafter only as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce our agreements. You can delete individual meals and images at any time; deleting your account removes your associated personal data as described in our Account Deletion page.
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures — including encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Your privacy choices
- Access, correct, or delete your data from within the app.
- Revoke camera, photo, or notification permissions in settings.
- Opt out of optional analytics where offered.
- Request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of your data by emailing support@bitemeasure.com.
13. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law. You will not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. To make a request, contact support@bitemeasure.com.
14. European privacy rights (GDPR/UK GDPR)
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact support@bitemeasure.com.
15. Account and data deletion
You can delete your account and associated data at any time from within the app or by contacting us. See our Account Deletion page for step-by-step instructions, timelines, and the limited data we may retain for legal or fraud-prevention purposes.
16. Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them, consistent with COPPA. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice within the Service.
